Label Placement Guidelines
Best practices for optimal performance and accurate sensing.
Sensos smart labels are designed to operate reliably in a wide range of shipping, storage, and transport environments. Correct placement ensures accurate readings, strong connectivity, and long-lasting performance throughout your shipment’s journey.

This guide shows recommended placement examples for various shipment types.
1. Cartons and Boxes
Recommended placements:
-
On the outer surface — Place flat on a clean, dry area of the carton.
-
On a folding flap (open/close seam) — Works well for reusable cartons.

-
Inside the carton — On top, middle, or bottom of goods.
(Note: the label supports up to 200 lbs / 90 kg of pressure.)
2. Palletized Shipments
Recommended placements:
-
On top of a palletized box — Ideally under stretch wrap rather than directly on it, to prevent damage when wrapping is removed.

-
Between layers of boxes — Ensures the label remains protected during handling.

-
On a pallet corner board or placard — A discreet placement option that still provides reliable signal performance.

-
Under the pallet deck — For security-sensitive applications, the label can be placed under the pallet structure.

3. Containers and Trailers
Recommended placements:
-
On the inside or outside of container doors — Place on a smooth metal or plastic surface.

-
On the inner side of truck or container walls — Ideal for monitoring environmental conditions or detecting door events.

-
On the outside of a container — Use only when external exposure is acceptable. Ensure surface is clean and dry.

4. Crates and Bins
Recommended placements:
-
On a wooden crate exterior — Apply to smooth, sealed wood surfaces for best adhesion.

-
Inside a crate or box lid — Provides protection from environmental exposure and tampering.

-
On a crate bin or metal frame — Suitable for industrial or returnable transport packaging.

5. Special and Controlled Shipments
Recommended placements:
-
In a plastic pouch or document sleeve — Attach alongside the waybill or packing list. The label can read accurately through clear plastic.

-
In a cargo net pocket or transport pouch — Common for air freight or rapid handling.

-
Inside a cooler or insulated container — Place away from ice, gel packs, or condensation. Avoid direct water contact.

Note: Sensos labels are rated for minimum temperature thresholds – see the product datasheet for exact operating limits.
-
Inside nuclear medicine or specialty crates — For high-value or sensitive payloads, position securely inside shielding structure.

6. Vehicle and Asset Tracking
Recommended placements:
-
On a dashboard or interior shelf — Suitable for temporary tracking of vehicles or returnable assets.

-
Secured with tape or zip ties — When surfaces are unsuitable for adhesives, tape or a strap can be used.

Placement Checklist
✅ Clean and dry the surface before application
✅ Avoid air bubbles or wrinkles under the label
✅ Ensure it’s not bent around sharp corners
✅ Avoid direct water or ice exposure
✅ When possible, protect the label under a layer of material (e.g., wrap, lid, or flap)
✅ Test one label per shipment type when first deploying
