Shipping and Export Guidelines for Sensos Labels

The Sensos Label contains a certified lithium metal battery that falls under IATA Section II, UN3091 regulations: it contains less than 1 gram of lithium and is safe for transport via air, ground, or ocean.

This guide outlines how to handle two distinct scenarios:

  1. When shipping goods with an activated Sensos Label as a tracker

  2. When shipping multiple inactivated Sensos Labels between locations

Shipping Goods with Sensos Labels as Trackers

When Sensos Labels are used as trackers inside a shipment, they are considered part of the product packaging and fall under an exempted category due to the small lithium content per device.

Guidelines:

  • Exempt from labeling: No lithium battery label is required.

  • No special documentation needed: No lithium battery declaration is needed on the Air Waybill (AWB).

  • Standard shipping allowed: Labels can be shipped by air, ground, or ocean.

  • Damaged devices cannot be shipped by air and must be repackaged or replaced.

2. Shipping Inactivated Sensos Labels Between Locations

When you are transporting unused or deactivated Sensos Labels in bulk (e.g., between warehouses, to a fulfillment center, etc.), the following rules apply:

Quantities of 1–4 Labels per Package:

  • No special labeling or documentation required

  • Safe for air, ground, or ocean shipping

  • Do not ship damaged units via air

Quantities of 5 or More Labels per Package:

  • ⚠️ Labeling Required: Apply a Lithium Battery Mark (100mm x 100mm) to one side of the package

  • ⚠️ Documentation Required: Air Waybill must include lithium battery information

  • ⚠️ Packaging Limit: Max 100 labels per package

  • ⚠️ Training Required: Staff must be trained in Dangerous Goods handling

  • Damaged units must not be shipped via air

    Labeling of Packages:

For packages containing 5 or more Sensos Gen 2.0 labels, a Lithium Battery Caution Label and the PI970 mark must be affixed to the package.

    Labeling Summary

    Customs & Export Regulations

    • Customs Declaration: The Sensos Label is considered part of the outer packaging and does not require separate declaration.

    • ECCN: 5A991 – No export license required for most countries, except embargoed ones (e.g., North Korea, Iran, Cuba, etc.)

    • Country of Origin: Substantially transformed in China.

Always consult with your shipping carrier to ensure local compliance with applicable regulations.
