Understanding Label Connectivity: Online vs. Offline Status
Online vs. Offline Labels
Sensos Labels are designed to report data at regular intervals, ensuring reliable and real-time visibility across your supply chain. This article explains the logic behind how a Label is marked as online or offline, what triggers these statuses, and what actions (if any) are required when a Label goes offline.
What Does "Online" Mean?
A Label is considered online when it successfully reports data to the Sensos platform within a predefined timeframe. This time interval is typically based on your monitoring configuration and can vary depending on the use case (e.g., shipment tracking, environmental monitoring, etc.).
As long as a Label continues to report within the expected time window, it remains online and fully operational.
When is a Label Considered "Offline"?
A Label is marked as offline when it fails to report within the maximum allowed reporting window. This time threshold is set to ensure timely detection of potential issues and is typically configured at the application or device profile level.
Common Reasons for Offline Status:
-
Temporary loss of cellular reception
-
Interference from packaging or container material
-
Battery depletion (in rare or extreme cases)
-
Extended time outside of configured reporting zones (e.g., airplane mode scenarios)
When any of the above occurs and no data is received before the timeout period expires, the platform marks the Label as offline.
What Happens When a Label Comes Back Online?
If an offline Label reconnects and successfully sends a report, its status is automatically updated to online. Historical gaps may still be visible in the reporting timeline, but connectivity resumes as normal.
